I Looked in the Toilet and Thought I’d Found Worms—Then I Realized What They Really Were

For a split second, I genuinely thought I was living through a nightmare.

I looked into the toilet and saw several thin, pale objects floating in the water. They looked disturbingly like worms.

My heart started pounding.

My mind immediately jumped to the worst possibilities—parasites, an infection, or something seriously wrong. I even zoomed in on photos, looking for movement and trying to convince myself that I wasn’t imagining what I was seeing.

Friends made the situation even more alarming.

“Call someone.”

“Get out.”

“That’s not normal.”

Within seconds, I was close to completely panicking.

Then I remembered one tiny detail from the day before.

My cat had spent some time outdoors and came back inside covered in dry grass, seeds and tiny pieces of plants.

I had brushed some of them from his fur, but apparently I hadn’t gotten everything.

The next morning, while I was drying my hair in the bathroom, the moving air may have blown some of those tiny dried pieces around the room.

And somehow, several of them ended up in the toilet.

But that still didn’t explain why they looked so much like worms.

Once the dry pieces of grass landed in the water, they became softer and appeared to swell.

That completely changed how they looked.

What had been tiny, harmless pieces of dried plant material suddenly looked disturbingly alive.

They weren’t worms.

They weren’t parasites.

They were simply wet pieces of grass.

The realization was almost embarrassing.

All that panic had been caused by something completely harmless sitting in a toilet bowl.
