Lionel Richie hospitalized in ICU: report

Lionel Richie is currently in the intensive care unit in St. Louis, after he was hospitalised after a show on Saturday.

According to TMZ, the 77-year-old All Night Long hitmaker checked himself in to the hospital after failing to finish the concert. 

The music icon had been performing at The Muny in Forest Park and according to fans who were in the crowd, he was struggling a bit towards the end of the show. 

At one point he asked his team to bring him a chair to perform his final song in the show, All Night Long, so he could sit down. 

TMZ is reporting that Richie is just being cautious and doctors are looking into possible dehydration.

Richie’s health has been a concern in recent months.

In June he was forced to end a show in Minnesota early after he felt dizzy while singing Dancing on the Ceiling.

Fan footage from the concert on June 26 showed the singer take multiple breaks to sit down during the song.

He then told the crowd it was the first time he’d ever performed the song like that.

“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your arse down,” he joked.

Richie continued for one more song before leaving the stage for an unplanned intermission, which he never returned from.

Almost an hour later, saxophonist Dino Soldo addressed the audience, and confirmed the show would be cancelled because Richie was “not feeling well.”

 

Richie then cancelled two concert shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio.

He returned to the stage a bit over a week later and also gave fans a health update on Instagram.

“Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. ❤️ I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you,” the caption reads.

“Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together.

“See you in Toronto... let’s party all night long!”
